Chicago, April 23, 2014- The Energy Storage Report makes the case for distributed storage. Read it here.
Chicago, February 14, 2014- Continental Electrical Construction Company (CECCO) and Intelligent Generation (IG) signed an agreement to develop a commercial size, smart solar energy system on the rooftop at CECCO’s headquarters in Oak Brook, IL. The project utilizes IG’s patented software to participate in wholesale power markets and reduce electricity costs through an efficient networked service that is not otherwise available to solar projects.
The CECCO project, which is expected to pay for itself in less than five years, will contribute to grid stabilization by bidding use of its energy storage system into the lucrative frequency regulation market. It will also enable CECCO to manage down its electricity demand and capacity charges by utilizing the onsite battery during peak demand times. Continental will manage project construction as it is a leading solar electrical contractor in Chicago and plans to share this experience with its 100 year-old customer base that includes the largest enterprises and building owners in the city’s history. IG is delighted to partner with CECCO to serve building owners and developers seeking to profit by participating in the region’s growing smart energy infrastructure.
An exhaustive timeline of Continental Electric’s projects can be found here.
Chicago, January, 2014- Intelligent Generation contracted with S&C Electric Company for the remote management of a 150 kW energy storage unit that is being installed at S&C’s product demonstration center in Chicago. S&C’s numerous visitors will witness how S&C’s products can participate in PJM’s lucrative fast response frequency regulation market, by way of membership in IG’s virtual power plant network and its optimization software. IG is a market member of PJM (North America’s largest grid operator).
As a long-time provider of power conditioning equipment for energy storage, S&C is committed to showcasing its latest products to its customers. In this interview to SmartGridNews last week, Mike Edmonds, Vice President for S&C’s US business unit, explained the company’s broad vision for the role that DES (distributed energy storage) will play in electric distribution grids of the future.
About S&C Electric Company: S&C, with global headquarters in Chicago, USA, is applying its heritage of innovation to address challenges facing the world’s power grids and is thus shaping the future of reliable electricity delivery. The mission of employee-owned S&C is to continually develop new solutions for electricity delivery, fostering the improved efficiency and reliability required for the intelligent grid.
Chicago, December 1, 2013- Intelligent Generation has moved! After over two years in the incubator space of the Illinois Institute of Technology, we have moved and expanded downtown into a shared office with our sustainability advisors Greenleaf Advisors. Our new address is 100 North Riverside Plaza, in the very same building that is also home to the world headquarters of the Boeing Company.

Chicago, May 17, 2013- In a news release, ComEd announced the names of the four lucky winners of the Smart Home Showcase contest. Sharing the news with the winners was the topic of a first video which marks the beginning of a stream of communication and social media events. The winners will regularly post their experiences until the end of 2014, and some “special feature” presentations will focus specifically on the IG systems once they are installed. Installations should be completed by the end of June.
Chicago, January 4, 2013- Intelligent Generation was officially accepted as a voting member by the regional transmission organization PJM. As the world’s largest grid operator serving over 50 million users, PJM coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia.
Though IG has worked closely on pilot programs with PJM’s Advanced Technology Resource division since 2010, this milestone brings the relationship to a new level. IG enjoys support from PJM’s market operations group to certify and qualify its virtual power plant storage assets into the wholesale market for fast response frequency regulation. When IG receives payment for frequency regulation, it makes smart-solar with storage profitable.
Chicago, December 1, 2012- In an effort to educate consumers on the benefits of the smart grid, ComEd has launched an outreach effort called the Smart Home Showcase. Its purpose is to demonstrate and increase awareness of the smart products, technologies and energy-savings that a smart grid could make widely available. Winners will share their experiences, and the impact the technologies have made on their energy use and lifestyles, by participating in videos, promotional communications and studies that ComEd will share with the public. Each winning home, selected in a competitive process, will receive the IG smart-solar system with battery storage, connected smart appliances from Whirlpool, a NEST thermostat and a power monitoring display. IG has been awarded the turnkey provision of the IG-smart-solar system with storage. Installation is expected to begin in March 2013 after the selection of the winning contestants is final.
