IG announces successful commissioning of first residential pilot

Chicago, October 17, 2011- Intelligent Generation is proud to announce the successful commissioning of its first smart solar and battery residential pilot.

On October 14th, 2011, IG launched its first residential demonstration, combining networked energy storage with rooftop solar. The system was connected to an existing 2.2kW residential photovoltaic solar system in a Chicago suburb and successfully passed all functional tests of remote monitoring and control by IG’s intelligent energy network. IG dispatches remote battery charge and discharge requests in order maximize customer value through energy arbitrage, demand reduction and frequency regulation. This system will now commence a campaign of data collection covering several months for continuous improvement. The system is part of a multiple unit pilot project conducted by IG with the association and support of Commonwealth Edison and PJM. Several other units of residential and commercial size are scheduled to be connected in the coming months. The objective of this pilot is to demonstrate that IG’s intelligent renewable energy network can transform the economics of solar for residential and commercial building owners in 50% of the U.S. where solar power has no economic payback today.
