Chicago, December 1, 2012- In an effort to educate consumers on the benefits of the smart grid, ComEd has launched an outreach effort called the Smart Home Showcase. Its purpose is to demonstrate and increase awareness of the smart products, technologies and energy-savings that a smart grid could make widely available. Winners will share their experiences, and the impact the technologies have made on their energy use and lifestyles, by participating in videos, promotional communications and studies that ComEd will share with the public. Each winning home, selected in a competitive process, will receive the IG smart-solar system with battery storage, connected smart appliances from Whirlpool, a NEST thermostat and a power monitoring display. IG has been awarded the turnkey provision of the IG-smart-solar system with storage. Installation is expected to begin in March 2013 after the selection of the winning contestants is final.
