Big News for Illinois Energy: Governor Pritzker Signs CRGA into Law!

Today marks a historic turning point for the Illinois energy market. We are thrilled to share that Governor J.B. Pritzker has officially signed the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act (CRGA) into law.

For Intelligent Generation, and for the entire distributed energy sector, this is the signal we have been waiting for. The CRGA doesn’t just set goals; it builds the market infrastructure needed to make the grid smarter, cleaner, and more affordable.

What the CRGA delivers:

  • Consumer Savings: In the face of rising electricity costs over the past year, implementation of the Bill is projected to save ratepayers over $13 billion by reducing reliance on expensive peak power.
  • 3GW Energy Storage Target: Illinois is now mandated to deploy 3 gigawatts of storage by 2030, a massive expansion that will require intelligent software to manage and monetize.
  • Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) are now policy: The Act explicitly creates a VPP program, validating the exact model Intelligent Generation has pioneered—paying asset owners to support the grid during peak demand.
  • Stand-Alone Storage and Community Solar+Storage:  The Bill creates new opportunities for developers to add independent storage projects up to 5 MW directly to the distribution grid, co-located with community solar projects, or at business customers.
  • Storage for All: New incentives will ensure storage access for low-income households and non-profits, broadening the impact of distributed generation.

How Intelligent Generation Helps: The policy is now in place, but the complexity remains. To participate in these new VPP programs, storage assets need smart, predictive software to know when to store and when to sell.

That is what we do. Our platform ensures these new storage assets aren’t just sitting idle—they are actively earning revenue and supporting the grid. We are ready to help developers, utilities, and asset owners deploy and monetize this new wave of storage.
